None of these is a sunset tour. They are daytime trips, back in Perth in the evening; for sunset and the stars you join one of the evening coach tours on the homepage. The name on a listing is not always a guide to group size either: Autopia Tours sells its sunset tour on Viator as a “Small Group Tour” in a 28-seater midi-coach.

take you there tours meets at 6:45 AM at the Bell Tower in Barrack Square, or collects from selected Perth CBD hotels on request. In the Pinnacles Desert it drives the sandy loop and leaves time to walk among the pillars at your own pace, then calls at the Pinnacles Desert Discovery centre. After that come Thirsty Point Lookout in Cervantes, the boardwalk at Lake Thetis and 105 minutes at the Lancelin dunes with sandboarding. Morning tea, water, sunscreen and a beer or a gin are included; lunch at the Lobster Shack is at your own cost. It is not for children under 8.

The early start is the point: the group is at the pillars well before the afternoon tours arrive. For a small group and time on the sand, this is the day to book.
